We've been meaning to email you for quite awhile now, but always were too busy... but here we are finally, so now I'll explain the situation.

Sandy's 12yo son Josh Smith is autistic. We had registered through The Durham Center a couple of years ago so that he could receive respite care through The Arc, and we had also been told that a number of other services were available (either directly from the Durham Center or via other agencies), and we had a case worker assigned who seemed very enthusiastic...

...and then we heard nothing for a long time... and then emails to the caseworker started bouncing... and then we heard through the grapevine that The Durham Center had experienced a computer crash, lost all their records, and that we would have to start again from scratch -- bringing in Josh for an entrance interview etc. This having been difficult enough to arrange the first time, and the Durham Center having moved we knew not where, we never got around to arranging this.

Lately we've been told that things are looking better at the Durham Center, and we had hoped that maybe we could get back in the system without having to go through the whole process again. We have some paperwork from before (e.g. an introductory letter from his caseworker), as well as Josh's case number (069746), the name of his entrance examiner (Sam Allen), and the name of his caseworker (Alexsandra Manuel).

Please let me know what our options are at this point. Josh is currently undergoing toilet training at school, which requires extensive support at home -- something neither of us are very good at -- and we have heard that a Caps worker would be most helpful in this regard. (Being able to get respite care again could also be very helpful, if The Arc is able to find someone reliable and regularly available again... we had problems with that.)

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Nick

Notes

There was no response to this email for a week or two, so we had an online friend who is not phone-phobic call The Durham Center to find out what the situation was.
