Western society is not designed for generalists. It frowns upon spending too much time contemplating the big picture, is extremely suspicious of moderation, and disapproves of dreams that are insufficiently narrow ("focused").

Blaming someone else for your actions is stupid. This is true whether "someone else" is your parents, your boss, the government, the Bible, or a rape victim.

Education and schooling are not the same thing. Ability and qualifications are not the same thing.

Cleverness and wisdom often work against each other. Cleverness has the tools, but wisdom knows how to use them without blowing yourself up.

Some women belong in the home; so do some men, though probably not as many. The important thing is that it's up to you to figure out where you belong.

The institution of marriage is beginning to show serious flaws in coping with modern life. There isn't yet a clear consensus on what will need to change, but it seems pretty clear the two weren't made for each other.

People shouldn't throw cigarette butts out of their car, but they do anyway. I wonder if they think someone picks them up, or if they just don't mind walking through trash.
