X10 is a communications protocol intended for home automation. It can use either A/C power lines or radio. Many devices are available. It's not clear what the bandwidth is, though from the description it sounds like it would not be high enough to allow audio or video transmission; it is mainly intended for sending and receiving simple on/off signals, or at most setting a value, e.g. the brightness of a lamp or the speed of a fan.
