When I grabbed the Kindle from the couch, it looked fine; when I tried to power it up, it started doing this. I did have it in my jacket pocket, but I don't have any recollection of being worried that I had banged it on something. I also remember it falling from the couch to the (hardwood) floor at one point, but I thought I checked it after that.
Meh. Glad it was a hand-me-down, and not something I paid for.
