Woozle's 45s

Intro

This is a list I made several years ago of my 45s collection. It's grown a little but not a whole lot since then. This list doesn't include stuff that I also had in LP or CD format; there are also some things I exclude, e.g. this doesn't have any of my Beatles singles (I've got 5-10 of them, mostly on Apple records) or the 3 ELO singles (one with a rare B-side, one on clear purple vinyl...).

Most of these are discs I found in used records stores in the 1980s, though a few are from my record collection when I was tiny (most of which I foolishly gave away because I was tired of how scratchy everything was; I've mostly replaced the discs I gave away, I think, but it took some doing). A bunch of them were in a box I bought for $20, containing a lot of stuff I didn't even know I knew (let alone liked) until I played it -- which is why I think it's really cool now that audio compression and the Internet are just now (note: this bit was written in 1998) starting to make it possible to preview discs before you buy... But enough of that hobby horse...

Quite a few of these are songs I remembered hearing in the car while driving around town or going to the beach or something. Some of them I had to do some detective work to track down, e.g. could only remember two lines, neither of which was the title. (I highly recommend The Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits for tracking down forgotten favorite radio songs.)

Songs I'm still trying to track down:

• a song that might be by Madonna; the only words I can remember are "to let love grow / too many dreams"... I can play it on the piano if anyone thinks they might be able to identify it (one of these days I'll put up a MIDI file)

• I was looking for "Mah Na Mah Na" ("muhnuhmuhnuh... doot-doooo de doo-doo..."), but I found the Sesame Street version on Songs from the Street: 25 Years of Music 3-CD set (available at Amazon, Costco, and Barnes & Noble, among others) and someone sent me a lo-fi recording of the Muppet Show version (which I like better) so now I'm only looking for a higher-fidelity recording of that (preferably something I can buy, to make it legal).
