An untried recipe found on Google+:

Melt 1 bar of soap in 5 cups of water by shaving the soap and keeping the water at about 50% heat [ed. note: probably means turn the burner on about halfway]. Fill a 3-gallon bucket with hot water, and pour in the melted soap. Add 1 cup of borax and stir, then 1/2 cup of washing soda and stir. Leave for about 2 days to solidify, then stir and pour into containers.

Use about 1/3 cup at a time.

This was using Dial soap, which apparently comes in 4 oz. bars.
