Dear Grandma & Granddad,

It was good to hear from you. Again I've been tardy in responding, but at least I'm reducing the lead time bit by bit(!). We've managed to knock off some large chunks from the backlog of things-in-need-of-doing, so life is slightly less hectic (although the list still wraps around the block). The bathroom drawers are built, but the cabinet door isn't and they all need finishing. And then there's the kitchen...

Various news tidbits:

The Observer has survived the summer and is now in the middle of Xmas rush advertising. The band has done two shows ("gigs", as they are termed in the vernacular), both successful but not financially profitable. We are currently working on a tape for sale and radio play.

Livia and I delivered three of the four black kittens and their mother (Hecate) to Livia's mother (Rebekah) in Chapel Hill; she then managed to find homes for two of them. Meanwhile Target, the one remaining of our two original cats from NC, was killed on the highway last month or so. Rebekah has given us back the final kitten, as she is allergic to cats and the kitten is a total lovemuffin in need of more attention than her sinuses would allow. That kitten (One) and the one kitten we couldn't catch (Four) are now good friends and race around the house chasing each other. Jessica has sent them both cat toys, without which they could not survive the day. We are trying to keep them inside as much as possible; it isn't terribly easy now, and I imagine it will become much more difficult when the weather heats up again.

Livia has this to add:

"Meanwhile, the garden calls despite the icky wet cold weather. Nick has cleared yet another path through the wild woods. Mubbie and I have planted four blueberries, three butterfly bushes and a purple abelia. We've spread lime over the summer garden and planted garlic, leeks and catnip. Will the cats be grateful? Personally, I think they'll be more fascinated by the asparagus fronds."

Hope you are all feeling well, especially as regards hospital visitation and so forth. I seem to recall that you all were thinking of visiting NC in the early spring; we'll look forward to seeing you!

Best wishes,
