Mel is Sandy's eldest son, from marriage #1.

2009-08-26 Mel had a photo published on the Navy's web site: Midshipmen from the Republic of Korea 2009 Coastal Training Squadron tour the foc'sle of amphibious command ship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19).
2009-06-06 Mel's training is almost complete; he had orders for the USS Peleliu, reporting no later than July 20, but this was later changed to the USS Blue Ridge, stationed in Japan
2008-11-03 first letter received (mostly a form letter, but Mel scribbled a note at the end)
- Mel is on the USS Kearsarge (see also Wikipedia)
2008-10-28 leaving for a 5-year stint in the US Navy today
2006-05 Graduated from Earlham College
