Cockroach poison

This concoction is one of the few things that kills cockroaches around the house. It is also relatively non-hazardous to humans, though you should still keep it out of reach of pets and children.

• 1 tbsp brown sugar
• 1 tbsp almond butter (or any other kind of nut butter)
• 1 tsp boric acid

Exact quantities probably do not matter much; the main thing is that the ingredients need to blend together smoothly so the roaches can't eat the nut butter and sugar without also getting some boric acid (which is what kills them).

Mix everything together and leave in multiple locations, one dollop (~1 quarter tsp) per location. What works well for us is to put each dollop in a used juice or soda bottle lid. Leave the lids inside drawers and cabinets where the cockroach population seem to be the highest.

They seem to remain effective for at least 3-6 months, as long as the dose hasn't been completely consumed (keep an eye on each one so you can replace those quickly). They do dry out eventually, however, and then the roaches lose interest.

If the recipe results in more than you need, you can refrigerate the extra in an airtight container or sealable bag and use it later.
