The name is a reference to the Alcatraz Smedry juvenile fantasy series<ref name=series /> by Brandon Sanderson. One major premise of the series is the existence of "Smedry talents", in which certain unfortunate personal tendencies can actually be used as powerful tools. The protagonist, Alcatraz Smedry, has a talent for "breaking things", which was originally accidental but something he learns to control as the series progresses.
